The Birth of Gaeltra
I have wanted to create something for a very long time but did not want to do this alone. I am a firm believer that together we are stronger and united we can overcome so much more than doing things on our own.
Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that education and wellbeing are interconnected. At Gaeltra, we strive to cultivate an environment where learning is not just an academic pursuit but a holistic experience that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit.
We are committed to creating opportunities for meaningful engagement, promoting a sense of belonging and joy in every interaction.

Who We Are
The Gaeltra team are connected for a very long time through many years of meeting one another in various places and training venues. Through this, we all became not only good friends but started to churn ideas around in our heads and hearts over the last 5 or 6 years, exploring what we could all do together.
The Meaning of Gaeltra
The name ‘Gaeltra’ translates to ‘a group of wild children playing,’ a fitting description of our ethos. We aim to create a space where fun and engagement are at the heart of everything we do.
Our programs are designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love for learning, encouraging participants to explore the world around them with enthusiasm and wonder.
Our Educational Philosophy
It is my view and the view of the team that education and well-being must have the bedrock of relationship within this. So, when it comes to Forest School for example, the relationship WITH the children is a critical and vital part of what do and why we do this.
We have a very simple ethos;
Every child, every person is unique and matters and it is our job to help them to become their best selves
Children and all of us need nature, we depend on it. So, why not step back and return to some of the old ways – the way we used to do things in life. We know nature has the extraordinary ability to enhance learning, development and healing. Indigenous cultures have been doing this long before us – there is nothing new here. BUT we have forgotten some of this and it is our intention to teach and support in such a way that fosters and encourages a relationship with nature which can be transformative. Stand back and just watch nature do her thing!
Key Features of Forest School
At Gaeltra, we embrace the Forest School philosophy, which emphasizes learning through outdoor play and exploration. This approach allows children to immerse themselves in nature, fostering creativity, independence, and problem-solving skills. By engaging with the natural environment, children learn to appreciate the world around them while developing essential life skills. Our programs are designed to encourage curiosity and a love for learning, helping children to grow into confident and resilient individuals.
Child-Led Play
Our approach prioritizes child-led play, where children are encouraged to follow their interests and make decisions about their activities. This autonomy helps them develop confidence and a sense of responsibility.
Long-Term Engagement
We offer long-term programs that allow children to form meaningful connections with their peers and the environment. This continuity supports deeper learning and personal growth over time.
Hands-On Learning
Children participate in practical activities such as building shelters and creating art from natural materials. These experiences enhance creativity and provide a sense of accomplishment.
Benefits of Nature-Based Learning
Nature-based learning offers numerous benefits for child development. It promotes physical activity, environmental awareness, and emotional well-being. By engaging in play, children develop social skills, resilience, and the ability to manage risks. Our programs at Gaeltra are designed to harness these benefits, ensuring that children grow into well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the challenges of life.
